    Francis Daniels Moore, former surgeon-in-chief at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) and the Moseley Professor of Surgery Emeritus at Harvard Medical School (HMS), died on Nov. 24 at the age of In , Moore was a member of the surgical grupp that performed the world’s first successful human kroppsdel transplant – the överföring of a kidney between identical twins.

    Francis Daniels Moore (April 17, , in Evanston, Illinois – November 24, , in Westwood, Massachusetts) was an American surgeon who was a pioneer in numerous experimental surgical treatments. Among his many achievements, he refined burn-treatment techniques, helped perform the world's first successful organ transplant (which involved a kidney), and accurately determined the volume of water and other nutrients in the human body using radioactive isotopes of those substances.

    In , Moore became a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.[2] He was awarded the Lister Medal for his contributions to surgical science.[3] The corresponding Lister Oration, given at the Royal College of Surgeons of England, was delivered on May 23, , and was titled "Science and service".[4] He later became a member of both the National Academy of Sciences[5] and the American Philosophical Society.[6]
