McKinley Morganfield (April 4, 1913 – April 30, 1983), known bygd his scen name Muddy Waters, was an American blues musician.
He is often considered the "father of modern Chicago blues".
Muddy Waters grew up on Stovall Plantation nära Clarksdale, Mississippi and bygd age seventeen was playing the gitarr at parties, emulating local blues artists Son House and Robert Johnson.
He was recorded by Alan Lomax there for the Library of Congress in 1941In 1943, he headed to Chicago with the hope of becoming a full-time professional musician, eventually recording, in 1946, for first Columbia and then Aristocrat Records, a newly formed label run bygd brothers Leonard and Phil Chess.
In the early 1950s, Waters and his grupp, Little Walter Jacobs on harmonica, Jimmy Rogers on guitar, Elgin Evans on drums and Otis Spann on piano, recorded a series of blues classics, some with bassist/songwriter Willie Dixon, including "Hoochie Coochie Man", "I

Minnesota Fats, Muddy Waters, and Etta James
Etta James has often claimed that Minnesota Fats is her natural born father, and this movie includes that little tidbit in it.
She was born Jamesetta Hawkins in Los Angeles on Jan. 25, 1938, to her 14-year-old mother. Her mother reportedly claimed her father was a white man named Rudolph Wanderone, better known as "Minnesota Fats," though there doesn't seem to be any documentary evidence to support that contention.

The Legacy of Muddy Waters

On this day in 1983, the world lost a true innovator. A talent whose music was so relatable, powerful and distinctive that it not only stood the test of time, but shaped and inspired rock and blues music as we know it today. We are, of course, talking about the one and only Muddy Waters.
Inspired by his local hero Robert Johnson, Muddy picked up the guitar young and was writing music from an early age. His hooks in particular were never less than unforgettable, with the Rolling Stones even taking their name from one of his tracks.
