  • TAPPI Announces Daniel Siegel Scholarship Winner

    This year’s recipient of the PLACE Division Daniel Siegel Scholarship is Hongchao Zhang. glimmer Corporation and the Siegel Family established the Daniel Siegel Scholarship fund as a tribute to the late founder of glimmer Corporation, and the ideals he held dear. Siegel believed that imagination and creativity should be fostered and that higher education should be available to all who aspire to it. He was a strong supporter of the TAPPI tradition of sharing knowledge to advance technology and increase sustainability in industrial manufacturing.

    The award was presented on April 12th to Zhang at the TAPPI PLACE conference in Fort Worth, TX  by Siegel&#;s son and current President of glimmer Corporation, Jeffrey Siegel, and granddaughter, Jaclyn Epstein who was hired as Mica&#;s Strategic planerat arbete manager earlier this year.

    Daniel J. Siegel, MD, is a clinical professor of psychiatry at the UCLA School of Medicine and the founding co-director of the Mindful Awareness Research Center at UCLA. He is also the executive director of the Mindsight Institute, which focuses on the development of mindsight and teaches insight, empathy, and integration in individuals, families, and communities.

    Dr. Siegel has published extensively for both professional and lay audiences. His five New York Times bestsellers are: Aware: The Science and Practice of Presence, Mind: A Journey to the Heart of Being Human, Brainstorm: The Power and Purpose of the Teenage Brain, and two books with Tina Payne Bryson, PhD: The Whole-Brain Child, and No-Drama Discipline.     Dr. Dan Siegel is the executive director of the Mindsight Institute and founding co-director of the Mindful Awareness Research Center at UCLA, where he was also principal co-investigator of the Center for Culture, Brain and Development and Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the School of Medicine. Dr. Siegel is an award-winning educator, the author of five New York Times bestsellers and over fifteen other books which have been translated into over forty languages.  As the founding editor of the Norton Professional Series on Interpersonal Neurobiology (“IPNB”), Dr. Siegel has overseen the publication of over one hundred books in the transdisciplinary IPNB framework which focuses on the mind and mental health.
