Early life
The mind behind the designs which Madonna once called "as good as sex" was born on November 28, 1942, in Santa Cruz dem la Palma in Spain's Canary Islands. The son of wealthy parents his Czech father's family owned a Prague pharmaceutical firm, his Spanish mother's family ran a banana plantation Manolo Blahnik came from a long line of footwear appreciators. These included his mum, who made her own evening shoes when she wasn't purchasing custom designs from the island's prestigious shoemaker, Don Cristino.

Biography
[edit]Blahnik was born in Santa Cruz de la Palma, in the Canary Islands (Spain), to a Czech father and Spanish mother. His father left Prague in the 1930s to avoid rising fascism; his grandparents disappeared in the 1950s after the Communists took charge.[2] His mother's family owned a banana plantation in the island city of Santa Cruz de la Palma, where he grew up alongside his sister, Evangelina.[3] He was homeschooled as a child before eventually attending a Swiss boarding school. Born in the Spanish Canary Islands to an affluent family headed by a Spanish mother and Czech father, Blahnik grew up in the beautiful, lush setting of a banana plantation owned by his mother’s family. He was homeschooled in this mainly isolated locale, recalling years later his childhood activity of using foil chocolate candy wrappers to make shoes for the many lizards roaming the land.
