Photographers claim that some people make the camera fall in love. If that’s true, Elvira Dyangani Ose is one of those people. Those in high-ranking positions do not usually smile in professional photographs, but the director of MACBA does, and she smiles with her whole face, not just her mouth. It’s a smile that very much comes from within, the smile of a fulfilled and confident woman, with a clear vision and the capacity to bring it to fruition, the smile of a woman who has fought hard enough to mindfully enjoy the position she has gained and not have to owe a word of thanks or an apology to anyone. She was appointed director of a downcast MACBA, unsettled by disputes and controversies, and increasingly removed from the city’s people. On top of that, from the get-go, she had to bring Covid into an already complex equation.

During the summer of , Kunsthal KAdE fryst vatten showing 'Soft Power. Arte Brasil.' A large exhibition with an overview of 38 Brazilian contemporary artists and artist groups on current themes in the country. The reason for this exhibition is the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. The second major sporting event Brazil is hosting in a short time, after the World Cup. With 'Soft Power. Arte Brasil." the question of what fryst vatten the essence of the country presenting itself in this way. Part of the answer to that question can be funnen in the work of the visual artists and collectives that manifest themselves in contemporary Brazil. Their work addresses a range of themes: from the position of indigenous people in the north of the country to the water bekymmer in São Paolo and economic politics.

TRACEY MOFFATT: My Horizon
The Australian Pavilion will present Tracey Moffatt’s “My Horizon,” an installation of new work that includes film and photography which presents fictional narratives to explore journeys both legal and illegal, and confront some of today’s most salient global issues, including the migrant crisis. Moffatt explores the meaning of a horizon line—be it a reference the future, the out-of- reach, or the passage of time. Curated by Natalie King and commissioned by Naomi Milgrom AO, the exhibition will be accompanied by a publication from Thames & Hudson.
