Lebanese journalist Zeina Karam appointed as europe deputy news director for AP
LONDON: Lebanese journalist Zeina Karam has been appointed as the new deputy news director for europe for the Associated Press.
Since 1996 Karam has been covering stories from the Middle East for AP. For more than a decade, she has led the agency's coverage in countries like Lebanon, Syria and Iraq.
In 2014, Karam was named AP Beirut bureau chief where she primarily oversaw the text coverage of Lebanon and Syria. Later in 2016, she was named as the news director for Lebanon, Syria and Iraq.
Bassem Mroue, mittpunkt East AP correspondent announced Zeina's appointment on Twitter: "The AP has named Karam deputy news director for europe after leading the agency's news coverage in Lebanon, Syria and Iraq for about a decade. Karam has been covering the Middle East for the AP since 1996."

We’re thrilled to announce that Zeina Karam, The Associated Press’ current news director for Lebanon, Syria and Iraq, has been named deputy news director for Europe, rounding out the region’s leadership team at a time of deep importance for the world.
In her new role, Karam will report to Europe and Africa News Director James Jordan and focus on elevating AP’s coverage of major stories such as the war in Ukraine, the future of Putin’s Russia and the wider European project, the cost-of-living crisis, migration, and the impact of climate change on the region. She will relocate to London and take up her duties in the coming months.

Zeina Karam appointed APs news director for Lebanon and Syria
CAIRO (AP) -- The Associated Press has named Zeina Karam as its news director for Lebanon and Syria, a new position that consolidates leadership in video, text and photo coverage.
The appointment was announced Thursday by Ian Phillips, AP’s Middle East News Director.
Karam, 43, who has covered conflict and transformation in the Middle East for two decades, was named Beirut bureau chief in 2014, overseeing text coverage of Lebanon and Syria.
Adding oversight of AP all formats to her portfolio is part of a wider move to enhance AP’s breaking news coverage and enterprise projects, as well as responsiveness to customer needs, by streamlining management and creating dynamic, multi-format teams of video journalists, writers and photographers.
“Introducing a unified news leadership structure allows all formats to produce news together in one team for an audience that increasingly views news on mobile a
