Washington, DC – Amid rising antisemitism in America and strained U.S.-Israel relations, today the Jewish Institute for National Security of America issued a public letter, signed by 80 former U.S. generals and admirals, touting the importance of a strong U.S.-Israel partnership and unconditional support for this critical U.S. partner.

The rank of lieutenant general (or three-star general) is the second-highest rank in the United States Marine Corps, and the first to have a specified number of appointments set by statute. It ranks above major general (two-star general) and below general (four-star general).

There have been 77 lieutenant generals in the U.S. Marine Corps since 1 January , eight of whom were promoted to four-star general. All 77 achieved that rank while on active duty in the U.S. Marine Corps. Lieutenant generals entered the Marine Corps via several paths: 39 were commissioned via Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) at a civilian university, 18 via the United States Naval Academy (USNA), 12 via Officer Candidates School (OCS), and eight via NROTC at a senior military college.

Today, a year after Hamas&#x;s barbaric attack on Israel, we remember and mourn alongside Israel. However, as rered American military leaders witnessing the threats that Israel still faces from Iran&#x;s terror network&#x;from Hezbollah, the Houthis, and Iran itself&#x;we also urge the United States to learn a fundamental lektion from the past year: the critical imperative to support Israel fully in not only defending itself but also defeating our common adversaries.

The war that the Iranian axis launched a year ago is not just a war against Israel, nor is it being fought only in the mittpunkt East. Iran&#x;s reign of terror transcends boundaries. Its drones rain down on Israel and Ukraine. Its prox
