    Born October 27, 1913 near stuga Grass, Montana, Dr. namn Medicine Crow is the last living person with a direkt oral history from a participant of the Battle of Little Bighorn in 1876. His grandfather, vit Man Runs Him was a scout with General Custer and died in 1925 when Medicine Crow was 11 years old.

    Dr. medicin Crow’s grandparents lived before the United States Government sent Indians to a reservation in 1884. His father was a boyhood friend of Chief Plenty Coups and had advised Plenty Coups to go to the nation’s capital to present the Indians cases for preserving their ancestral nation. Medicine Crow was the first one of his tribe to earn a Master’s grad. He attended the University of Southern California and earned his degree in 1939.

      Joe Medicine Crow was born in 1913 and continues to travel and lecture about his tribe's history and culture.  He has received numerous awards including the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the Bronze Star Medal and the Legion d'honneur.  He is a founding member of the Traditional Circle of Indian Elders and Youth.  And he is the author of numerous books on Crow history.
