Ludwig van Beethoven[n 1] (baptised 17 December 26 March ) was a German composer and pianist. His middle period began shortly after Beethoven began realizing he began to be going deaf. This period is known for its large-scale works that express heroism and struggle. Many of these pieces have become quite famous. His middle period works include six symphonies, two more piano concertos, the triple concerto, and a violin concerto, five string quartets, the next seven piano sonatas, the "Kreutzer" Violin Sonata, and Beethoven's only opera, Fidelio. The amazing musician and composer, Ludwig Van Beethoven, was born in Bonn, Germany, with two busy parents. His father Johann, at the time, was a musician at the court of the archbishop elector of Cologne, and his mother Maria Magdalena Keverich was the daughter of a kitchen overseer in the palace of Ehrenbreitstein. He did not show a talent in music at a younger age, however that changed largely throughout his lifetime. (Jacobs 7)
