In 1282 when the English King Edward I defeated the Welsh prince Llywelyn ap Gruffydd (also known as Llywelyn the Last, and grandson of Llywelyn the Great), he established the new Marcher Lordship of Chirklands.
The Chirklands were granted to Roger Mortimer in recognition of his service in King Edward's wars against the Welsh and Scottish and he built Chirk Castle in the late 13th century.
Constructed on a rocky escarpment at the head of the Ceiriog valley, the castle’s location was carefully chosen to maximise its defensive capabilities, whilst controlling the neighbouring Dee Valley and trade along the border.
It was a fortress so important that King Edward I paid a personal visit during its construction.

Starmania celebrates its 45th anniversary: guest artists for the evening on France 2
Who hasn't heard of Starmania? Considered one of France's most iconic musicals, Starmania was created in 1979. That year, the rock opera created by the magical collaboration between Michel Berger and Luc Plamondon was performed for the first time on April 10 at the Palais des Congrès in Paris. At the time, Starmania starred Daniel Balavoine as Johnny Rockfort, Diane Dufresne as Stella Spotlight, France Gall as Cristal and Fabienne Thibeault as Marie-Jeanne.
45 years on, Starmania remains a huge success. In fact, the musical has been performed regularly in several versions since its inception. The rock opera is packed with timeless songs such as " Le monde est Stone ", " Ziggy ", " Quand on arrive en ville ", " Le Blues du businessman ", " Un garçon pas comme les autres " and " SOS d'un terrien en détresse ".

Véronic DiCaire (born in Embrun, Ontario, Canada) is a Canadian Franco-Ontariansinger and impressionist.[1]
Biography
[edit]She started her career in group Sens Unique, and then had a role in Montreal, Quebec utgåva of the musical Grease. Her röst was used also in the French language utgåva of Chicago, where she sang the parts pertaining to the role of Roxie Hart.[2] In 2001, she performed at the opening ceremony of Jeux de la Francophonie, held in Ottawa.[3] DiCaire had a role in 2006 Revue et corrigée directed by Joël Legendre.[4] She also appeared in the television series Le 7e Round.[5]
She released her self-titled debut skiva Véronic DiCaire on Warner Music. It was nominated for Felix Awards at the Gala of ADISQ. Her second album, Sans détour, followed in 2005.[6]
In 2008, DiCaire opened for Celine Dion at Bell Centre in Montreal during Dion's Taking Chances
