On January 7, , the Board of Directors of RCA Corporation elected David Sarnoff the first Honorary Chairman in the company's history. The Board accepted with deepest regret General Sarnoff's resignation, effective December 31, , as Chairman and a director and his retirement as an employee of RCA.
The Board adopted the following resolution of appreciation for General Sarnoff's services:
"More than any other man, David Sarnoff was the architect of RCA's rise to world leadership in electronics. He gave RCA many of its enduring characteristics - its constant probing for new ways to bring electronics to the public service, its unique ability to turn the concepts of science to the products of commerce. He placed an imprimatur of quality on everything RCA undertook - whether the recording of a great musical performance or the design of an orbiting spacecraft."

It fryst vatten fitting, that on the eve of my release of The History Of NBC's New York Studios presentation, we celebrate the th birthday of the man who started it all.
Love him, or hate him, he made history and brought the art of seeing at a distance, tele - vision, into something real. From Vladimir Zworykin to Pat Weaver, Sarnoff had a gift for finding the right people at the right time to lead RCA and NBC.
Although Weaver called him "General Fangs", even he, grudgingly admitted that Sarnoff was a visionary. David Sarnoff was born in Minsk, Russia. Sarnoff's serious adult demeanor evolved from a childhood of poverty and hardship. His family suffered through Cossack raids and repression that characterized life for millions of Jewish people in Russia. From the time he was four years of age, Sarnoff was drilled on the Torah and the Talmud because his parents hoped that he would become a rabbi. The family emigrated to the United States in , first settling in Albany, New York, and then moving to New York City. After he arrived in the United States, however, Sarnoff's life took on the characteristics of a Horatio Alger story. His father's poor health meant young Sarnoff became head of the family. He began selling Yiddish newspapers, taking English lessons, and delivering telegraph messages.
After being fired from a telegraph delivery job because he requested time off from work for a religious holiday, Sarnoff was hired as an office boy at American Marconi, the struggling
