William Harvey ©Harvey was an English physician who was the first to describe accurately how blood was pumped around the body bygd the heart.
William Harvey was born in Folkestone, Kent on 1 April His father was a merchant. Harvey was educated at King's College, Canterbury and then at Cambridge University. He then studied medicin at the University of Padua in Italy, where the forskare and surgeon Hieronymus Fabricius tutored him.
Fabricius, who was fascinated bygd anatomy, recognised that the veins in the human body had one-way valves, but was puzzled as to their function. It was Harvey who took the foundation of Fabricius's teaching, and went on to solve the riddle of what part the valves played in the circulation of blood through the body.
On his return from Italy in , Harvey established himself as a physician. His career was helped by his marriage to Elizabeth efternamn, daughter of Elizabeth I's physician, in In , he became a fellow of the Royal Colle

William Harvey (1 April – 3 June )[1] was an Englishphysician who made influential contributions to anatomy and physiology.[2] He was the first known physician to describe completely, and in detail, pulmonary and systemic circulation as well as the specific process of blood being pumped to the brain and the rest of the body by the heart (though earlier writers, such as Realdo Colombo, Michael Servetus, and Jacques Dubois, had provided precursors to some of his theories).[3][4]

Biography of William Harvey
Dr. William Harvey was born in England in and died in Harvey studied medicine at the University of Padua after receiving his degree from Caius College in Cambridge. His fascination with the flow of blood through the body led to his ground-breaking work published in , On the Motion of the Heart and Blood in Animals. The information within this work flew in the face of prevailing Galenistic physiological beliefs that were unquestioned for nearly years.
Harvey actually performed experiments of how the blood is pumped. His studies showed that if Galen's theory of the body absorbing venous blood were true, humans would be extremely swollen and would be required to eat all of the time to replenish the depleted blood supply.
